Dracut Cuts Ribbon on First Senior Housing Built in 35-Years

A major milestone was celebrated in Dracut, Massachusetts, as town officials, community leaders, and residents gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of a new senior housing development — the first project of its kind built in the town in more than three decades.

The new Greenmont Senior Housing project represents a significant step toward expanding affordable and accessible housing options for older adults and people with disabilities in the community.

A Long-Awaited Housing Solution for Dracut Seniors

For 35 years, Dracut had not added a newly built senior housing community. The completion of Greenmont marks a turning point for residents who have been seeking safe and affordable places to live while remaining connected to the town they call home.

The project was developed to help meet the growing need for senior housing, especially as many communities across Massachusetts face challenges providing affordable housing options for older residents.

Greenmont Senior Housing Brings 56 New Apartments

Located at 1530 Bridge Street in Dracut, Greenmont Senior Housing is a three-story building featuring 56 one-bedroom rental apartments designed for seniors and individuals with disabilities.

The community includes:

  • One-bedroom residential units
  • Community gathering rooms
  • Shared laundry facilities on each floor
  • Resident storage areas
  • Outdoor seating spaces
  • Walking paths
  • A fenced pet area
  • Parking for residents and visitors

The building was designed to provide residents with a comfortable environment where they can live independently while having access to important services.

Affordable Housing Designed for Local Residents

All 56 apartments are classified as affordable housing and are available to households earning below a certain income level under the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program. The goal is to make quality housing available to seniors who may otherwise struggle with rising housing costs.

Community leaders said the project reflects Dracut’s commitment to creating more opportunities for residents to age safely in their own community.

Support Services Help Residents Age in Place

Beyond providing apartments, Greenmont will connect residents with additional support services. Partnerships involving organizations such as Community Teamwork, Peabody Properties, AgeSpan, and the Dracut Council on Aging will help residents access resources including transportation, healthcare assistance, and other community services.

These programs are designed to help seniors maintain independence while receiving support when needed.

Community Leaders Celebrate Major Achievement

The ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighted the teamwork between local officials, housing organizations, financial partners, and developers who helped bring the project to life. Funding support came from several public and private sources, including housing organizations and financial institutions.

The project also focused on energy efficiency and environmentally responsible construction, with plans to meet standards connected to programs such as Energy Star and LEED certification.

A New Chapter for Senior Living in Dracut

The opening of Greenmont Senior Housing is being viewed as an important achievement for Dracut. After decades without a new senior housing development, the town now has a modern community designed to provide affordable, accessible, and supportive living options.

For many residents, the project represents more than just a new building — it represents a place where seniors can remain part of the Dracut community for years to come.
