A Lawrence police officer was seriously injured Tuesday night after being struck and dragged by a vehicle during a traffic stop, according to authorities. The incident happened in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s injuries.

Officer Injured During East Haverhill Street Traffic Stop

The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. near East Haverhill Street and Kendall Street, where Lawrence police officers had stopped a vehicle. During the traffic stop, officers identified the driver and passenger inside the vehicle. Authorities said the driver was allegedly operating the vehicle with a revoked license, while the passenger was reportedly wanted on two active arrest warrants.

Police said the situation escalated when officers attempted to take the driver into custody. According to investigators, the passenger moved into the driver’s seat and attempted to leave the scene. As the vehicle accelerated away, an officer tried to stop the vehicle and became caught up with it.

Officer Dragged Two Blocks Before Being Separated From Vehicle

Authorities said the officer was dragged approximately two blocks before becoming separated from the moving vehicle. The officer suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Boston-area hospital for medical treatment. Officials have not released the officer’s name or detailed medical condition.

Law enforcement officials described the situation as a serious incident that highlights the dangers officers face during routine traffic enforcement. A traffic stop that began as a standard police interaction quickly turned into an emergency situation requiring immediate medical response.

Suspect Remains Under Investigation

The person accused of driving away from the scene was not immediately in custody, and investigators continued working to determine what charges may follow. Authorities are reviewing the events leading up to the incident, including the actions of the individuals inside the vehicle and the moments when the officer was injured.

Officials are expected to provide additional updates as the investigation develops. At this time, police have not released further information about possible charges or whether any arrests have been made.

Police Department Offers Support for Injured Officer

The Lawrence Police Department asked the public to keep the injured officer and the officer’s family in their thoughts during the recovery process. Community members and fellow officers have expressed concern and support following the incident.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are continuing to gather evidence and information related to the traffic stop and the officer’s injuries. More details are expected as officials complete their review of the case.
