A frightening early morning crash in Dracut, Massachusetts, ended with two women injured after their vehicle broke through a guardrail and landed in Beaver Brook. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and performed a difficult rescue operation to remove the occupants from the partially submerged car.

The crash happened near Lakeview Avenue and Primrose Hill Road, where first responders found a Subaru sitting in the brook below the roadway. The vehicle had traveled through a guardrail before coming to rest in the water.

Driver and Passenger Escape Before Firefighters Arrive

According to officials, the two women inside the vehicle were able to get themselves out of the Subaru after the crash. However, because the car had landed below the roadway and the area had steep sides, they needed assistance getting back up to safety.

Firefighters from the Dracut Fire Department responded and used rescue equipment, including ropes, to help pull both women out of the brook and back onto the roadway.

Two Women Taken to Hospital With Minor Injuries

The driver, a 24-year-old woman from Lowell, and the passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Newburyport, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Both were treated at the scene before being transported to Lowell General Hospital for further evaluation.

Officials said the injuries were not considered life-threatening, and the quick response from emergency crews helped ensure both occupants were safely removed from the dangerous location.

Swift Water Rescue Team Called to Scene

The Dracut Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team assisted with the operation, entering the brook to check the vehicle and support the rescue effort. Crews also worked alongside towing companies to remove the Subaru from the water.

The recovery operation continued for several hours as responders secured the area, removed the vehicle, and made sure the scene was safe.

Police Investigating What Caused Crash

Authorities are continuing to investigate why the Subaru left the roadway and crashed into Beaver Brook. Police have not announced any charges connected to the incident.

Investigators are expected to examine factors such as road conditions, vehicle movement, and other circumstances that may have contributed to the crash.

Community Reacts After Dangerous Accident

The crash attracted attention from local residents because of the unusual location and the challenging rescue. A vehicle ending up in a brook below a roadway can create serious risks, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be limited.

The incident also highlighted the work of local first responders who quickly coordinated to help the two women escape safely.

Quick Response Prevents Worse Outcome

A terrifying crash in Dracut sent a car into Beaver Brook and left two women injured, but a fast response from police, firefighters, and rescue crews helped prevent a more serious outcome. While the investigation continues, officials are reminding drivers about the importance of caution and staying alert on the road.
