Woman told to ‘drive more carefully’ in drive-thru lane responds by attempting to run customer over, police say

A routine visit to a fast-food restaurant in South Florida turned into a frightening confrontation after a woman allegedly attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon following a dispute in a drive-thru lane. Authorities say the incident began with a simple warning about safe driving and quickly escalated into threats, an attempted assault, and a police investigation that ended with an arrest.

Incident Unfolds at Florida Raising Cane’s

According to police, the incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday at a Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers restaurant located on Northeast 8th Street in Homestead, Florida, near the Miami area. Investigators say 32-year-old Amber Nicole Collier was driving through the restaurant’s parking lot when the confrontation began.

Authorities allege that Collier was driving recklessly and entered the drive-thru lane in the wrong direction. During the maneuver, she reportedly came dangerously close to colliding with another vehicle occupied by two women.

Driver Allegedly Entered Drive-Thru the Wrong Way

Police documents state that Collier’s vehicle nearly struck the victims’ car while she was traveling the wrong way through the drive-thru lane. Concerned by the near collision, one of the women followed Collier to a nearby stop sign and told her that she should “drive more carefully.”

Investigators say the comment appeared to anger Collier, setting off a chain of events that rapidly intensified beyond a verbal disagreement.

Verbal Exchange Escalates Into Alleged Threats

According to the arrest affidavit, after being told to drive more carefully, Collier allegedly made a U-turn with her vehicle and drove toward the woman who had confronted her. Witnesses told police that she began shouting insults and threats during the encounter.

“I’m Going to Kill You,” Police Say Suspect Shouted

Investigators claim that Collier yelled profanities and repeatedly threatened the victim while attempting to steer her vehicle toward her. Among the statements attributed to Collier was the threat, “I’m going to kill you.” Police say she also directed other offensive remarks toward the victims during the confrontation.

Authorities believe the suspect intended to strike the victim with her vehicle but instead hit a curb, preventing a direct collision.

Second Alleged Attempt Leaves Woman Injured

The situation did not end after the first alleged attempt. According to police, a passenger from the victims’ vehicle exited the car during the confrontation. Investigators say Collier then drove toward the victims again.

Passenger Reportedly Struck by Vehicle

Police allege that as Collier drove past, her vehicle struck the second woman in the arm. The impact reportedly caused bruising, although authorities said the victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

Investigators documented the injury as part of the criminal case and included the victim’s statement in the arrest report.

Victims Describe Fear During Confrontation

The woman who initially warned Collier about her driving told investigators she feared for her life during the encounter. Police say the alleged threats, combined with the suspect’s actions behind the wheel, caused the victim to believe she could be seriously injured or killed.

Injuries and Emotional Impact

While the second victim suffered visible bruising to her arm, authorities noted that the emotional impact on both women was significant. The primary victim reported feeling terrified as the vehicle allegedly drove toward her more than once.

Additional Crash Reported During Escape

Police say the incident expanded beyond the confrontation with the two women. After the alleged assault, Collier reportedly fled the restaurant parking lot.

Vehicle Allegedly Struck Dodge Ram

While leaving the scene, Collier is accused of hitting a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was exiting the restaurant. Authorities say she did not stop after the collision and continued driving away from the area.

The alleged hit-and-run collision became an additional component of the criminal investigation.

Police Locate and Arrest Suspect

Law enforcement officers later tracked down Collier approximately 10 miles from the Raising Cane’s location. She was pulled over and taken into custody without further incident.

Charges Filed Against Amber Nicole Collier

Following her arrest, Collier was charged with aggravated battery and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. Authorities transported her to the Miami-Dade County Jail for processing.

Court records cited by police indicated that she was being held on a bond amount of $7,500 and was scheduled to appear before a judge shortly after the arrest.

Legal Implications of the Case

Under Florida law, a vehicle can be considered a deadly weapon when it is intentionally used to threaten or injure another person. Prosecutors often pursue aggravated battery charges when investigators believe a suspect deliberately used a vehicle to cause bodily harm.

Potential Consequences

If convicted, defendants facing aggravated battery charges can be subject to significant criminal penalties, including prison time, probation, fines, and a permanent felony record. Additional penalties may apply for leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.

Community Reaction and Safety Concerns

The incident has drawn attention because it allegedly began with a relatively minor disagreement over driving behavior in a restaurant parking lot. Cases involving road-rage-style confrontations continue to raise concerns among law enforcement agencies nationwide, particularly when vehicles are allegedly used to threaten or injure others.

A Reminder About Escalating Conflicts

Safety experts frequently advise drivers to avoid prolonged confrontations and to contact authorities when disputes become aggressive or threatening. What started as a warning about driving carefully reportedly escalated within minutes into threats, injuries, property damage, and criminal charges.

Conclusion

The Homestead drive-thru confrontation serves as a stark example of how quickly a seemingly ordinary disagreement can escalate into a dangerous situation. Police allege that Amber Nicole Collier reacted violently after being told to drive more carefully, attempting to strike victims with her vehicle, injuring one woman, damaging another vehicle, and fleeing the scene before being arrested. The case is now moving through the Florida court system, where prosecutors will determine how to proceed with the charges stemming from the incident.
