A tragic child homicide case in Washington state has drawn national attention after authorities discovered the remains of 4-year-old Aiden Bevins buried in his grandmother’s yard. Police allege that the young boy was killed by his own father, 36-year-old Jacob Scott Bevins, who is now facing multiple serious criminal accusations. The case emerged after investigators began looking into the whereabouts of Aiden and his older sister, leading to a grim discovery that has devastated family members, former caregivers, and the local community.

Investigation Began With Concerns About Aiden’s Sister

According to investigators, the case first gained momentum on May 12, 2026, when the Aberdeen Police Department received information regarding the whereabouts of Aiden’s 6-year-old sister. Authorities learned that the girl was safe and staying with her mother, but during the investigation, officers realized that no one could clearly account for Aiden’s location.

Relatives Raised Alarms About Missing Child

Family members reportedly told investigators that they had not seen Aiden for an extended period of time. Their concerns prompted police to question Jacob Bevins about the child’s whereabouts. Bevins allegedly claimed that Aiden was staying with relatives in another state.

Police Verify Father’s Story

Authorities contacted the relatives identified by Bevins. According to police, those family members denied that Aiden was with them and stated that they had not seen the boy at all. This contradiction immediately heightened investigators’ suspicions and prompted further action.

Search Leads Investigators Back to Family Property

After discovering inconsistencies in the father’s statements, investigators returned to the property where Aiden had reportedly been living with his father and grandmother in Aberdeen, Washington. Police were assisted by the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team during the follow-up investigation.

Discovery of Human Remains

On May 15, detectives conducted additional interviews with Jacob Bevins. Information obtained during those conversations ultimately led investigators to a burial site on the property. Authorities discovered Aiden’s remains concealed in a tote bag and buried beneath the residence area of the property associated with his grandmother.

The discovery ended weeks, and possibly months, of uncertainty surrounding the child’s fate and transformed a missing-child investigation into a homicide case.

Father’s Explanations Changed Repeatedly

According to court documents and police reports, Jacob Bevins provided multiple explanations regarding what happened to his son.

Initial Claims About Child’s Location

At first, he allegedly told investigators that Aiden was living with relatives outside Washington. Police quickly disproved that claim after contacting those relatives.

Later Admissions and Contradictory Stories

Investigators say Bevins eventually admitted involvement in the child’s death. However, his descriptions of the circumstances reportedly changed over time. In one account, he allegedly stated that he struck the boy. In another version, he claimed Aiden accidentally fell while being chased.

Authorities found those explanations inconsistent with the physical evidence uncovered during the investigation.

Autopsy Reveals Evidence of Severe Abuse

A postmortem examination conducted after the recovery of Aiden’s remains reportedly revealed evidence that contradicted the father’s explanations. Medical findings indicated that the child had suffered extensive abuse over a prolonged period.

Cause of Death

According to reports, the autopsy determined that Aiden died from blunt-force trauma. Investigators said the injuries were not consistent with the accidental-fall scenario described by Jacob Bevins.

Evidence of Ongoing Harm

Authorities stated that the examination suggested a pattern of continuing abuse rather than a single accidental event. Those findings significantly strengthened the homicide investigation and contributed to the criminal allegations against the father.

Criminal Charges Against Jacob Bevins

Following the investigation, Aberdeen police arrested Jacob Scott Bevins.

Charges Announced by Authorities

Police indicated that Bevins was arrested on suspicion of several offenses, including:

  • Second-degree murder
  • First-degree manslaughter
  • Homicide by abuse
  • Child assault
  • Unlawful disposal of human remains
  • Making false or misleading statements to public officials

Custody Status

Reports indicated that Bevins was being held in custody while prosecutors reviewed the case and prepared formal charging decisions. Different reports noted that he was either being held on significant bail or without bail pending further court proceedings.

Mother Believed Son Was Living With Relatives

The investigation revealed that Aiden’s mother had been incarcerated during part of the period when the boy disappeared. According to reports, she believed that Aiden was staying with family members in Idaho and was unaware of what had actually happened to him.

The revelation added another heartbreaking dimension to the case, as family members struggled to understand how the child could vanish for such a long period without authorities uncovering the truth sooner.

Questions Raised About Child Welfare Oversight

The case has also generated scrutiny regarding the handling of Aiden’s welfare before his death.

Former Foster Parents Speak Out

Aiden had reportedly spent years in foster care before eventually being returned to his biological parents. Former foster parents Gary and Magali Lopez told local media that they repeatedly contacted child welfare agencies, including Child Protective Services and the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, expressing concerns about the children’s safety.

Concerns Were Reportedly Raised Multiple Times

The foster parents said they believed warning signs were overlooked and that the children should not have been returned to an unsafe environment. Their statements have fueled calls for a closer examination of decisions made before Aiden’s death.

Emotional Response From Caregivers

Speaking after the discovery of Aiden’s body, former foster mother Magali Lopez expressed anger and heartbreak over the outcome, stating that she believed multiple systems failed the child. Her comments reflected the frustration felt by many who had cared for or known Aiden.

Community Mourns the Death of a Young Child

The death of Aiden Bevins has deeply affected the Aberdeen community and beyond. Residents, relatives, former caregivers, and advocates for child welfare have expressed grief over the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.

The case serves as a painful reminder of the vulnerability of children caught in troubled family situations and has intensified discussions about child protection systems, foster care oversight, and the importance of investigating welfare concerns promptly.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings

As of the latest reports, prosecutors continue to review evidence gathered by detectives, including autopsy findings, witness interviews, and statements allegedly made by Jacob Bevins. Court proceedings are expected to determine the final charges and the next steps in the prosecution.

The investigation remains one of the most disturbing child homicide cases to emerge in Washington state in recent years, centered on the death of a 4-year-old boy whose disappearance ultimately led investigators to a grave hidden in his grandmother’s yard.
