A disturbing case out of Ohio has left a community searching for answers after authorities alleged that a mother shot her 12-year-old son in the head while the two sat inside a vehicle parked in a residential garage before attempting to take her own life. Investigators later filed attempted murder charges against the mother as additional details emerged about the events that unfolded inside the Deer Park home.

Emergency Call Revealed Horrific Scene

The incident occurred on January 26, 2025, in Deer Park, a suburb near Cincinnati in Hamilton County, Ohio. According to authorities, emergency crews were dispatched to a residence on Glenway Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. following a frantic 911 call from a man who identified the woman involved as his girlfriend and the mother of the injured child.

During the emergency call, the man urgently requested medical assistance and told dispatchers that he believed the woman had shot her 12-year-old son. He also reported that she appeared to be overdosing. According to the recorded call released by investigators, the caller stated that he had discovered the pair inside a vehicle in the garage.

Boy Found With Gunshot Wound to the Head

The caller informed dispatchers that the child had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He explained that the boy was seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle while the woman was in the driver’s seat. The caller said he had been inside the home when the shooting allegedly occurred and did not hear any gunshots.

When asked about the condition of the child, the caller reported that the boy was still moving. Dispatchers instructed him on how to provide emergency aid while first responders rushed to the scene.

Mother Allegedly Overdosed After Shooting

The man also told emergency operators that the woman appeared unconscious and was foaming at the mouth. He suspected she had taken some type of drug after the shooting but was unable to identify the substance. Authorities later found the woman unresponsive inside the vehicle.

Investigators recovered a firearm from the vehicle, according to information relayed during the 911 call.

Police Discover Both Victims Critically Injured

When Deer Park police officers arrived at the residence, they located both the woman and the child suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities initially described both as being in critical condition.

Police officials emphasized that the incident appeared to be domestic in nature and stated that there was no ongoing threat to the public. Investigators immediately began processing the scene and collecting evidence to determine exactly what had occurred inside the garage.

Community Shocked by Violence

News of the shooting quickly spread throughout Deer Park, where residents expressed shock over the allegations. The case became even more heartbreaking after school officials confirmed that the 12-year-old victim was a student at Amity Elementary School.

School administrators informed parents that counselors and mental health professionals would be available to assist students and staff members coping with the tragedy. District leaders described the incident as deeply upsetting and reassured families that student well-being remained a top priority.

Grand Jury Returns Attempted Murder Indictment

As the investigation progressed, prosecutors presented evidence to a Hamilton County grand jury. The grand jury subsequently indicted 29-year-old Briasha Stroud on one count of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault in connection with the shooting of her son.

The indictment represented a major development in the case and formally accused Stroud of intentionally attempting to kill the child. Court records indicated that she was being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center following the charges.

Details of Alleged Murder-Suicide Attempt

According to investigators, Stroud allegedly shot her son in the head while the pair sat inside a vehicle parked in the garage. Authorities further alleged that she then shot herself and attempted to end her own life. Both survived the initial incident and were transported to the hospital for emergency treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and officials have not publicly disclosed a motive. Investigators continue reviewing evidence, witness statements, and forensic findings related to the case.

Investigation Continues

Law enforcement officials have continued to examine every aspect of the incident to determine what led to the alleged shooting. While authorities have released portions of the 911 call and announced criminal charges, many questions surrounding the events that unfolded inside the garage remain unanswered.

The case has drawn significant attention because of the young age of the victim and the allegation that the shooting was carried out by his own mother. Prosecutors are expected to pursue the charges as the criminal proceedings move forward through the Hamilton County court system.

A Community Awaiting Answers

For residents of Deer Park and families connected to the local school district, the case remains a painful reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and family crises. As court proceedings continue, community members, educators, and investigators alike are hoping for answers regarding what led to the tragic events that unfolded inside the garage on that January afternoon.
