Woman who boarded school bus to tell child she would ‘beat his a—’ for bullying her stepson is getting her own ride — straight to jail

An Indiana woman who boarded a school bus and threatened elementary school children she believed were bullying her stepson has been sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to multiple charges stemming from the incident. Authorities said the confrontation escalated into physical violence and left several children traumatized by what occurred on the bus.

The case attracted widespread attention after investigators reviewed school bus surveillance footage showing the woman and her partner boarding the bus without permission and confronting young students. Prosecutors argued that the adults took matters into their own hands instead of using proper channels to address concerns about bullying.

School Bus Confrontation Sparked by Bullying Allegations

The incident occurred on October 31, 2025, near an apartment complex in Greenwood, Indiana. According to court documents and police reports, authorities were called after witnesses reported that two adults had boarded a school bus and were yelling at children.

The adults were later identified as 26-year-old Raven Barner and 27-year-old Donquarious Ridley. Investigators said the couple believed that children on the bus had been bullying their grade-school-aged son, who was also Barner’s stepson.

Several students told police that the adults appeared angry about the alleged bullying and immediately began confronting children after getting onto the bus.

Surveillance Video Captured the Entire Incident

According to investigators, security cameras installed on the school bus recorded the confrontation from start to finish. The footage became a key piece of evidence in the criminal case.

Police said the video showed Barner and Ridley entering the bus after their son had boarded. Authorities noted that the bus driver never granted them permission to enter the vehicle.

The footage allegedly showed the pair moving toward children they believed were responsible for bullying their son and initiating a heated confrontation.

Threats Directed at Young Students

Court records state that Barner initiated a verbal altercation with two children and directed explicit threats toward one of them. Investigators said she told a child she would “beat his a—” and further threatened to have her stepson do the same.

Authorities also alleged that Barner encouraged her stepson to begin a physical altercation with one of the children. Prosecutors described her actions as actively escalating the situation rather than attempting to resolve it.

The threatening language and encouragement of violence were among the factors that led investigators to pursue criminal charges.

Bus Driver Tried to Protect the Children

As tensions rose, the bus driver intervened in an effort to protect the students. According to police, the driver positioned herself between Barner and one of the children who was being threatened.

Despite the driver’s efforts, investigators said Barner struck one child and inadvertently hit another during the chaotic encounter. The physical contact formed the basis for the battery charges later filed against her.

Authorities credited the driver with attempting to de-escalate the confrontation and shield students from further harm.

Allegations Against Donquarious Ridley

Police reports indicate that Ridley was also involved in the confrontation. Investigators alleged that he encouraged his son to attack one of the children accused of bullying.

According to court documents, the child complied, and Ridley allegedly threw one of the young students to the ground while encouraging his son as the fight continued. Investigators also accused Ridley of shoving another child into the side of the bus.

The alleged victims were all under the age of 14.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Following the disturbance, officers launched an investigation and reviewed witness statements along with the surveillance footage. Authorities later located the couple and conducted a traffic stop.

After identifying them as the adults involved in the school bus incident, police arrested both Barner and Ridley.

The investigation concluded that the adults had unlawfully boarded the bus and engaged in threatening and violent behavior toward children.

Criminal Charges Filed

Barner was charged with two counts of battery on a child under the age of 14. She was also accused of resisting law enforcement during the course of the investigation.

Ridley faced two counts of battery on a child under the age of 14 and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Prosecutors alleged that he encouraged his son to participate in the assault.

The charges reflected the seriousness with which authorities viewed the attack on children aboard a school bus.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Barner ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of battery involving victims under the age of 14. She also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement.

On May 21, 2026, a judge sentenced her to one year in jail followed by one year of active probation. The court additionally ordered her to undergo a mental health evaluation as part of her sentence.

Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner said the sentence sends a clear message that violence against children and resistance toward law enforcement officers will not be tolerated.

Ridley’s Case Remains Pending

While Barner’s case has been resolved through a guilty plea and sentencing, Ridley still faces criminal proceedings. Court records indicate that his case remains active.

As of the latest reports, Ridley’s next scheduled court appearance is set for July 27. Prosecutors continue to pursue the charges filed against him in connection with the school bus incident.

A Case That Drew National Attention

The incident generated significant attention because it involved adults confronting and allegedly assaulting children inside a school bus environment that is expected to be safe and supervised. Investigators emphasized that surveillance footage provided clear evidence of what took place and played a central role in the prosecution.

Authorities acknowledged that concerns about bullying can be serious but stressed that parents must address such issues through schools, administrators, and law enforcement rather than through threats or violence directed at children. The case ultimately resulted in jail time for Barner and ongoing criminal proceedings for Ridley.
