Leominster man arrested on 14 drug charges after raid of his apartment unveils 168.5 pills and $6,384 cash
A Leominster man is facing a lengthy list of drug-related charges after police executed a search warrant at his apartment and allegedly discovered a large quantity of prescription pills, marijuana, suspected hashish, drug distribution materials, and thousands of dollars in cash.
Authorities say the investigation culminated in an early morning raid that resulted in the arrest of 43-year-old Juan Leger, who now faces 14 separate drug charges connected to the alleged possession and distribution of controlled substances.
Early Morning Raid Targets Leominster Apartment
According to court records and police reports, investigators with the Leominster Police Department obtained a search warrant for Leger and his residence on Mechanic Street following an investigation into suspected fentanyl-related activity.
Law enforcement agencies from across the region participated in the operation, including members of the North Worcester County Drug Task Force, K-9 units, and correctional officers who assisted with the execution of the warrant.
Police established surveillance around the apartment before dawn and moved in shortly after 6 a.m.
After announcing their presence and receiving no response, officers reportedly made a forced entry into Apartment 5 and began conducting a search of the residence.
Multiple Occupants Found Inside
When officers entered the apartment, they located three individuals inside:
- Juan Leger, the target of the search warrant
- A woman identified as Leger’s girlfriend
- The girlfriend’s daughter
Authorities said all occupants were secured while officers conducted a detailed search of the apartment.
Large Quantity of Pills Recovered
During the search, investigators allegedly discovered numerous prescription medications stored in unlabeled containers and packaging throughout the residence.
According to police, the seizure included:
- Gabapentin pills
- Trazodone pills
- Quetiapine fumarate tablets
- Clonazepam tablets
- Lorazepam pills
- Alprazolam tablets
- Clonidine pills
In total, authorities reported recovering approximately 168.5 pills from various locations inside the apartment.
Many of the medications were allegedly stored in unlabeled bottles or packaged in small wraps, raising concerns among investigators regarding potential illegal distribution.
Suspected Hashish and Marijuana Also Found
Police also reported discovering:
- Four containers containing a brown chunky substance believed to be hashish
- Nearly 50 grams of marijuana
- Drug-related paraphernalia
The suspected drugs were reportedly found in Leger’s bedroom and other areas of the apartment.
Investigators noted that some of the substances will undergo laboratory testing for confirmation.
Scale and Distribution Materials Raise Suspicion
Authorities say additional evidence recovered during the search suggested possible drug distribution activity.
Items seized reportedly included:
- A digital scale
- Packaging materials
- Containers with residue
- Various storage materials commonly associated with narcotics sales
Investigators stated that the combination of controlled substances, packaging materials, and measuring equipment was consistent with drug distribution rather than personal use.
Police Seize More Than $6,300 in Cash
One of the most significant discoveries during the raid was the seizure of $6,384 in cash.
According to investigators, the money was found in multiple denominations, including a large number of $20 bills.
Police believe the cash may represent proceeds from illegal drug sales.
Authorities later reported that some of the money had been organized into bundled stacks secured with rubber bands, a method investigators say is commonly observed during narcotics investigations.
The cash was seized as evidence as part of the ongoing case.
Vehicle and Additional Evidence Examined
Investigators also searched a vehicle connected to the residence, where they reportedly recovered:
- A container with white residue
- Vehicle key fobs
- Related paperwork
Authorities have not publicly disclosed whether additional charges related to the vehicle investigation may follow.
Fourteen Drug Charges Filed
Following the search, Leger was arrested and transported to the Leominster Police Department for booking.
He now faces 14 drug-related charges, including:
- Multiple counts of possession of Class E drugs
- Possession with intent to distribute Class E drugs
- Multiple counts of possession of Class C drugs
- Possession with intent to distribute Class C drugs
- Possession of a Class D drug as a subsequent offense
The charges stem from the various substances recovered during the search and the evidence investigators say points toward distribution activity.
Court Appearance and Bail Conditions
Leger was arraigned in Leominster District Court shortly after his arrest.
Court records show he was released on $5,000 cash bail with conditions that reportedly prohibit him from possessing or using illegal drugs while the case remains pending.
He later appeared for a pretrial conference and is expected to return to court for a future compliance and election hearing.
Investigation Remains Active
Authorities have not announced whether additional arrests are expected as part of the investigation.
Police continue to review evidence collected during the raid and will work with prosecutors as the case moves through the court system.
As with all criminal cases, the charges against Leger are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
