Man posed as delivery driver, fired gun through cardboard box at his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, cops reveal
Authorities in Georgia say a man carried out a carefully planned attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend by disguising himself as a delivery driver and concealing a firearm behind a cardboard box before opening fire at the victim’s front door.
The suspect, identified as Jacob Forrest Kevinsson, 33, has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime following the May 6 shooting in Kennesaw, Georgia. According to investigators, the incident unfolded at approximately 10:30 p.m. at a residence on Smith Street, located about 25 miles northwest of Atlanta.
Investigators Say Suspect Pretended to Deliver a Package
According to police and court documents, Kevinsson allegedly arrived at the victim’s home carrying a cardboard box and presenting himself as a delivery driver. Officers say the box served two purposes: it concealed both the suspect’s face and the firearm he intended to use.
When the homeowner answered the door, the visitor reportedly asked him to verify his identity. After the victim confirmed who he was, investigators say Kevinsson immediately fired multiple rounds through the cardboard box and toward the victim.
Victim Shot Four Times
Police said the victim was struck four times during the attack.
According to the arrest warrant, two bullets hit the victim on the left side of his chest, while two additional rounds struck his right forearm. Despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds, the victim managed to survive the attack.
Officer David Buchanan of the Kennesaw Police Department told reporters that the suspect had intentionally used the cardboard box to disguise himself before opening fire. The unusual method of attack immediately drew investigators’ attention because of the apparent planning involved.
Victim Escaped to Neighbor’s Home for Help
After being shot, the victim was still able to leave the scene and seek assistance.
Authorities said he walked to a neighboring residence where help was summoned. A neighbor contacted emergency services, and first responders arrived to find the victim conscious and able to describe what had happened.
Officer Buchanan said the victim informed responders that someone had come to the house appearing to deliver a package before the shooting occurred.
Suspect Allegedly Fled in Toyota Corolla
Following the shooting, investigators say Kevinsson ran from the property and escaped in a Toyota Corolla.
Police began gathering evidence immediately, interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the neighborhood. Investigators were eventually able to identify the vehicle connected to the attack, which helped lead them to the suspect.
Relationship Motive Emerges During Investigation
As detectives pieced together the circumstances surrounding the shooting, they discovered a personal connection between the suspect and the victim.
Authorities say Kevinsson had previously been involved in a relationship with the woman who is now dating the shooting victim. Investigators believe the romantic history between the individuals played a significant role in the events leading up to the attack.
Officer Buchanan described the case as highly unusual and suggested emotions connected to personal relationships may have contributed to the violence.
“This is a very unique case, and it’s one of those things where relationships cause people to be emotional and that’s most likely what occurred here,” Buchanan told local media.
Arrest Made After Police Identify Suspect
After tracing evidence gathered from the scene and connecting the getaway vehicle to Kevinsson, law enforcement officers arrested the 33-year-old suspect.
He was booked into the Cobb County Jail, where authorities say he remains held without bond. Court records cited by local media indicate that no bond was granted following his arrest.
Charges Filed
Kevinsson is facing multiple felony charges, including:
- Aggravated assault
- Aggravated battery
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
The charges stem from allegations that he intentionally ambushed and shot the victim after luring him to the front door under the guise of delivering a package.
Victim Continues Recovery
The victim later spoke briefly with local reporters but declined to appear on camera. According to media reports, he said he is recovering as best he can following the shooting.
Authorities have not publicly released additional details regarding his medical treatment, but investigators confirmed he survived despite being struck four times.
A Rare and Chilling Alleged Ambush
Investigators described the case as one of the more unusual attacks they have encountered because of the suspect’s alleged use of a disguise and the method employed to conceal the weapon.
Police contend that Kevinsson intentionally posed as a delivery driver, concealed his identity behind a cardboard box, and used the package as cover while firing at the victim after confirming his identity at the door. The alleged plan, authorities say, transformed what appeared to be a routine package delivery into a violent ambush tied to a former romantic relationship. As the criminal case proceeds through the Georgia court system, prosecutors are expected to focus heavily on the planning and deception that investigators say preceded the shooting.
