Woman Douses Rival in Lighter Fluid During Fight, Gives Chilling Answer When Asked If She Planned to Kill Them: Police

A shocking assault case out of Ohio has led to serious criminal charges after a woman allegedly sprayed another person with lighter fluid during a violent confrontation and then gave a disturbing response when police questioned her intentions.

According to police and court documents, 48-year-old Amanda McClure was arrested on May 27 in Toledo, Ohio, following a reported physical altercation involving another individual. Authorities say the incident quickly escalated from a fight into a potentially life-threatening situation when lighter fluid and a lighter became involved.

What Happened?

The incident began when officers from the Toledo Police Department responded to a call regarding a fight. When police arrived, they encountered McClure and another person who had allegedly been involved in a physical altercation. Investigators say both individuals acknowledged that a confrontation had taken place.

According to the affidavit reviewed by authorities, McClure allegedly struck the other person with her hands and pulled the victim’s hair during the fight. However, police say the violence did not stop there. After the physical assault, McClure allegedly sprayed lighter fluid directly onto the victim’s face, eyes, and body.

Officers reportedly observed that McClure was holding a lighter during the incident, raising concerns about the possibility that the situation could have escalated even further.

The Chilling Response to Police

One of the most alarming details in the case came during police questioning at the scene.

According to court documents, an officer asked McClure whether she was planning to kill the victim. Police say her response was a single word:

“Maybe.”

That answer immediately heightened concerns among investigators, particularly given the presence of lighter fluid and a lighter during the altercation. While authorities did not report that any fire was actually started, prosecutors viewed the circumstances as serious enough to pursue a felony charge.

Charges Filed

Following the investigation, McClure was charged with felonious assault, a serious felony offense under Ohio law. Authorities booked her into the Lucas County Corrections Center after her arrest.

Court records show that a judge set McClure’s bond at $100,000. In addition, the court issued a temporary no-contact order, preventing her from contacting the alleged victim while the case proceeds through the legal system.

Victim’s Condition

Police documents released so far do not identify the victim or explain the relationship between the victim and McClure. Authorities also have not publicly released detailed information regarding the extent of any injuries suffered by the victim. However, investigators noted that lighter fluid was allegedly sprayed into the victim’s face and eyes, which can cause irritation, injury, and potentially more severe consequences if ignition occurs.

Why the Case Is Being Taken Seriously

Law enforcement officials often consider incidents involving flammable liquids to be extremely dangerous because of the risk that a confrontation can rapidly turn into a fatal fire.

Even when no flames are ignited, pouring or spraying a combustible substance on another person can create a significant threat of serious bodily harm. Prosecutors frequently treat such actions as aggravated or felonious assaults because of the potential for catastrophic injuries.

In this case, investigators pointed to the combination of the alleged assault, the lighter fluid, the presence of a lighter, and McClure’s reported response to police questioning as factors supporting the felony charge.

Upcoming Court Proceedings

McClure remains in custody as the criminal case moves forward. Court records indicate that her next scheduled court appearance is June 4, where further proceedings are expected to determine how the case will progress through the judicial system.

Conclusion

What began as a reported fight in Toledo allegedly escalated into a dangerous situation involving lighter fluid and a lighter, ultimately resulting in a felony assault charge. The case has drawn attention largely because of the suspect’s reported response when asked whether she intended to kill the victim — a response police say was simply, “Maybe.” As prosecutors continue to pursue the case, additional details may emerge through future court hearings and filings.
