Chelmsford Gets a New Dining Spot as Slim Chickens Announces June Opening

Food lovers in Chelmsford have something new to look forward to this summer as Slim Chickens prepares to open its latest restaurant in the city center later this month.

The fast-growing American-born restaurant brand has confirmed that its newest Essex location will officially welcome customers on June 25, 2026, bringing its well-known menu of chicken tenders, wings, sandwiches, and signature dipping sauces to Chelmsford High Street. The new restaurant will occupy the former Wendy’s unit at 9–10 High Street, marking another step in the brand’s continued expansion across the county.

New Restaurant Set to Transform Former Wendy’s Site

The upcoming Slim Chickens location will take over a prominent spot in Chelmsford’s busy town center, providing residents and visitors with another dining option in one of Essex’s most popular shopping and leisure destinations.

The restaurant will offer dine-in, takeaway, and delivery services, giving customers multiple ways to enjoy the chain’s Southern-inspired menu. Guests can expect freshly prepared chicken tenders, crispy wings, sandwiches, Texas Toast, signature sides, and the brand’s extensive selection of house-made dipping sauces.

The opening represents a significant addition to Chelmsford’s growing food scene, which has continued to attract major restaurant brands in recent years.

Slim Chickens Builds Momentum Across Essex

The Chelmsford branch will be operated by JRK Restaurants, the franchise group behind other Slim Chickens locations in the region.

The company recently expanded its Essex footprint with the launch of a restaurant in Basildon and now sees Chelmsford as another key market for growth. The new site strengthens the chain’s presence in the county as it continues to attract customers seeking freshly prepared chicken meals served in a fast-casual environment.

Slim Chickens has experienced rapid growth throughout the United Kingdom in recent years, becoming one of the country’s fastest-expanding chicken restaurant brands. The company now operates dozens of locations nationwide and continues to add new restaurants as demand grows.

Experienced Leadership Team Ready for Launch

The Chelmsford restaurant will be led by General Manager James Branagh, who will oversee daily operations and help introduce the brand’s customer-focused service approach to local diners.

According to the company, the new location will not only welcome existing staff members from the former Wendy’s operation but will also create additional employment opportunities within the community.

Branagh said the success of the recently opened Basildon restaurant has generated excitement for the Chelmsford launch, with the team eager to introduce customers to the brand’s menu and hospitality-focused dining experience.

What Makes Slim Chickens Different?

Founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Slim Chickens has built its reputation around freshly prepared chicken and Southern-style comfort food.

Unlike many fast-food chains, the company emphasizes made-to-order meals, with chicken tenders marinated in buttermilk, hand-breaded, and cooked fresh for each order. This approach has helped the brand stand out in the increasingly competitive chicken restaurant market.

Another feature that has attracted a loyal customer following is the restaurant’s variety of house-made sauces, giving guests numerous flavor combinations to choose from during each visit. The menu also includes wraps, sandwiches, salads, wings, and sides designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes.

Rewards and Exclusive Offers for Customers

To coincide with the launch, customers will also have access to the Slim Chickens mobile app.

The app provides rewards, promotions, and exclusive offers, including incentives for first-time visitors. Company representatives say the loyalty program is designed to enhance the customer experience while encouraging repeat visits.

As competition among restaurant chains intensifies, loyalty programs have become an increasingly important tool for attracting and retaining customers.

Boost for Chelmsford’s Growing Food Scene

The arrival of Slim Chickens adds another nationally recognized dining brand to Chelmsford’s expanding hospitality sector.

As Essex’s county city and one of the region’s busiest commercial hubs, Chelmsford continues to attract retailers, restaurants, and entertainment businesses looking to capitalize on strong consumer demand and high foot traffic.

The opening is expected to draw interest not only from local residents but also from visitors traveling through the city center for shopping, business, and leisure activities.

Countdown Begins for June 25 Launch

With opening day now officially confirmed, anticipation is building among local food enthusiasts eager to try the latest addition to Chelmsford’s restaurant scene.

The new Slim Chickens restaurant will open its doors on June 25, 2026, at 9–10 High Street, Chelmsford, bringing the brand’s signature Southern-style chicken menu, popular sauces, and fast-casual dining experience to the heart of the city.

For Slim Chickens, the Chelmsford launch represents another milestone in its ongoing UK expansion. For local diners, it means one more destination to add to their list when looking for a quick meal, a family dinner, or a new place to experience one of America’s fastest-growing chicken brands.
