[LOWELL MASSACHUSETTS] As life keeps going on despite a pandemic, love is truly something to celebrate. Our artists are coming into their studios and creating with all their passion the things that bring them joy – ceramics, jewelry, apparel, paintings, works in glass, metal and wood. You can join Western Avenue’s artists for a Virtual Open Studios on February 6th from noon until 5pm and see the fruits of their labor. Visit the WA blog (https://westernavenuestudios.com/blog/) to see who is participating, and watch live stream demos on Western Avenue’s Facebook page (https://fb.me/e/47dnZXkkl) as well as videos and posts from participating artists like Tarja Cockell’s scarves and Eir’s Garden’s soaps. Swoon over the new art being made. Support your local creative economy if you are inspired.
February will usher in a new business opening at Western Avenue Studios. The main loading dock lounge area will now be home to Tiny Arms Coffee. Jon Santos and his wife, ceramic artist Kate Cutlip, are proud to bring their passion for a great cuppa to Lowell. Jon and Kate recently moved into Western Avenue Lofts, Kate moved her ceramic practice, Tiny Arms Ceramics, into a studio at WA, they got married, and Jon is opening their coffee roasting business. It is clear that they love each other and what they do – and we think that is an inspiring story for February.
Karl Frey, the owner of Western Avenue, is excited to have another artisanal food/beverage business at Western Avenue. “It has always been my vision to have the passion people have for their art joined with the passion people feel when they produce food. Navigation Brewing was the first step in that direction, our visiting food trucks the second, and now with Tiny Arms Coffee we’ll have coffee, tea and light fare. Next it would be great to have a distillery or kombucha maker – but one thing at a time!”
Tiny Arms Coffee will be roasting and selling beans wholesale and retail and through online subscription at www.tinyarms.co. Right now, they are selling three roasts from single origins, one blend and a decaf. You can purchase a mug from Kate for your coffee as well.
Starting in February you’ll be able to come into Western Avenue and purchase your coffee to go, or hang out on the loading dock for a half hour. Once open, the cafes hours of operation will be Wednesday – Sunday 8am – 4pm. Tables will be restricted to sitting for one half hour and then they will be sanitized. On Friday and Sunday the Loading Dock Gallery will be open as well from noon – 4pm and on Saturday from noon until 6pm. Navigation Brewing is open from Thursday – Saturday 4 – 9:00pm and Sunday from noon until 5pm. Unfortunately, at this time the rest of the buildings are still closed to the public. The Western Avenue website and social media feeds will announce the opening of Tiny Arms Coffee once the date is set.
