United Way’s annual Blizzard Blast is coming up at the end of January and as with everything else this year, it will look a little different than it has in years past.
Because of COVID, Blizzard Blast is going “virtual” in 2021. Starting on January 30th, for one week, participants will be challenged to complete a tough 5K, 10K, or Half Marathon course with challenge stops along the way. Instead of obstacles, at each stop runners will be required to compete “individual exercises,” including lunges, burpees, squats, pushups, army crawls, jump ropes, etc. Throughout, runners will learn about the many great nonprofits in our community — because that’s where the stops are.
Runners are encouraged to post videos and selfies on social media, highlighting not only their progress but also the participating organizations. During this pandemic year the money raised will go to the United Way COVID Response Fund, which is supporting the many needs of our community. Runners “win” by competing the race, posting to social media, and raising funds.
